Bayliss's Day Out!

Yesterday Stephen, Mark (Stephens brother) and I raced 70.3 UK! And Stephen’s Mum and Dad were there to support us too!

The race was held at Wimbleball in Somerset, England. I have raced this race 3 times now. 2 years ago I came 5th and last year I won.
It was a competitive womens race this year including Julie Dibens, Catriona Morrison and Abigail Bayley.

WimbleBall Lake is not a highly populated area! So accommodation is scarse. However Stephen and I found a real treasure of a B+B last year. Gillian the owner has a B+B right on the side of the Lake. So once again we had a very comfortable stay with her, whilst other competitors have to find accomm miles away.
The race was to start at 6am, however there was a weather delay, for an hour and 15 mins. Very thick mist on the Lake just did not want to move. So the 1500 competitors had to hang out patiently!
Once underway, it was a nice day, warming up to a fine temperature.

I had a good swim. I managed to attack it and get into a group that was moving well. I came out the water with Catriona Morrison and just behind Abi, 2 minutes 20secs down on Julie.

A 600m run up a steep hill to T1. And onto the bike for a 2 lap very hilly bike course. I think it is a tough course, so if your not fit, it will hurt!

Catriona and I rode together for 75km but she was strong and rode away from me in the last 15km.
Julie was also riding strong, she is a good rider and there was nothing I could do about her! All I could do was concentrate on my own ride. Last year she also had a strong ride but I managed to run past her, so I kept working away in case I could do that again.
Once onto the run I could feel the effect of the hard ride in my legs. But I worked with my legs and got to work. Julie was 7 minutes ahead and Catriona was maybe 2 mins ahead by this point.

On the 3 lap very hilly run course there are a few points were you can see your competition. I could see that Catriona was running well and I could tell that Julie was not running so fast. I worked the run as best I could. I finished 3rd. In the end 4 mins down on Catriona who did a good job to win and Julie was 2nd with 1 minute ahead of me. ..I could’nt quite catch her.

So the Bayliss’s had a good day! Stephen came 2nd and Mark finished in just under 6 hours! Well done Mark!
